1. YOU'RE ALWAYS HUNGRY Inadequate sleep can increase the production of ghrelin (the hunger hormone) in your gut which makes your body crave fatty and sugary foods. Poor sleep can also mess with leptin, the satiety hormone and you're likely to eat more of what you're craving because you're not feeling the signals to stop.
2. YOU'RE GAINING WEIGHT With ghrelin and leptin not working as they should, your body will crave fried foods and sweets to get you through the day which usually leads to weight gain. Poor sleep can also slow down your metabolism.
3. POOR MEMORY Poor sleep causes cognitive impairments and leads to memory lapses and symptoms similar to ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).
4. YOU'RE MORE IMPULSIVE When you're sleep deprived, you're less inhibited and more likely to act without thinking.
5. YOUR EMOTIONS ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE Sleep deprivation causes increased sensitivity to emotional stimuli. This may lead to unusual anxiety, sadness or even anger.
